I bought a replacement remote from Ebay and successfully bound it to my aircraft using this video. It took several attempts but was successful. Be patient.

Take the slave controller, rebind to the aircraft, using bind procedures with button on aircraft, then you should be able to change its function to Master Controller in the app.
