Cardiac patients often require medications and specialized care. Medical assistants should be able to answer basic questions about prescribed heart medications and any special dietary recommendations the doctor makes. Seeing a specialist can be daunting, but medical assistants can help contain a patient's anxiety by explaining what will happen when the cardiologist enters the room. The assistant helps prepare the patient for the exam and assists the specialist during the exam. Once the exam is done, the assistant collects the lab samples to send for further testing if necessary.
