USA A vexing problem re Part 107.

I concur; the PIC's responsibility is to ensure that any any stage of flight, catastrophic failure will not impact a non-participant. A flight path that provides a wide berth helps to mitigate the impact of a failure that results in the aircraft deviating from the intended path.

Part 107 Asinine Airspace Authorization Rules

With this weather, it will be 90 days before you can fly anyway. :D

Part 107 Asinine Airspace Authorization Rules

This gentleman was one of the FAA's UAS subject matter experts, and from our discussion it was pretty clear that he was one of the team that helped devise or at a minimum provided input to Part 107. He was very clear on the question, we covered the various interpretations and he was quite...

Part 107 Asinine Airspace Authorization Rules

Yep. In my case, there's a lot of 700' floored Class E surrounding these small airports, not to mention a lot of airports and heliports in Class G airspace as well. It wasn't uncommon for me to make 4-6 phone calls to different hospitals and "seaplane bases" (some dude's house with his...

Part 107 Asinine Airspace Authorization Rules

Conversely, under Part 107 we don't have to notify an airport within 5NM as long as we don't enter controlled airspace. There's a lot of tiny municipal and private airports in 700' floor Class E around me that I don't have to deal with anymore. "Hi, I'm going to be flying an unmanned...

Part 107 Asinine Airspace Authorization Rules

If it got that far (and it wouldn't), I suspect they'd check any video to see if it contained anything obviously commercial in nature (tower inspection footage, say) and act on that basis. The FAA does have a pamphlet online somewhere that advises law enforcement with respect to hobby and Part...

Part 107 Asinine Airspace Authorization Rules

Copied from my post at PhantomPilots: I just got off the phone with the FAA. YES, you do need to apply for a waiver to fly in controlled airspace, and yes, the official lead time is 90 days, although it might not take that long. They realize that this is not viable for many commercial...

What to do when Airports and Heliports don't want to play?

Dave, Any insight as to how remote pilots are expected to contact ATC for permission to enter controlled airspace? I can't find any justification for use of a handheld VHF radio, so I am left to assume it's by telephone...

What to do when Airports and Heliports don't want to play?

I had that issue with a seaplane base near my house. I could never get anyone to answer the phone! I called the FAA and spoke to one of their sUAS folks, who told me that since I had made every effort possible to contact the airfield in question, I had done what was required. As it turns...

    Flying Over Water

I've flown my Phantom 3 4K low (5') over water without incident or accident. Look towards the end of this clip.

    Litchi for Osmo

Has anyone found a way to turn multiple row panoramas photos into click/drag 360 degree spherical panoramas that don't involve an engineering degree?
