If it is anything like a nexus tablet, you can go into settings and turn off other apps, especially the google updates. I also put it in airplane mode. It is frustrating but I have always had control.

Assuming that your flight track was accurate, the satellite picture is fairly detailed with the trees showing no leaves. I would try and count the trees in the image then try and repeat on site. Might at least get you into the ball park. I think with google earth you can even get a gps...

You mean like the test one has to take before having kids?

I had same thoughts but I think most issues were resolved so I went ahead and bought one. Awesome is all I can say.
