    Practice in DeBeque Canyon

Why are you shooting 30fps? 30 fps progressive will always look weird. It's not a format anyone is used to seeing. When you shoot 29.97 that is for a 60hz interlaced playback, and 24fps almost always has 2:3 pull down applied, so 30 fps progressive is just going to look weird.

    Vision Positioning System usage

I have done a fair bit of high speed low altitude work. Max throttle at approx 3' altitude. Both over water and land. I have found that you need to be flying the crap out of the aircraft. Don't assume anything, and use all of the tools available to you. If looking forward at high speed and low...

What is the lowest temperature you have successfully flown in?

I did have my props ice up once when it was about 20 degrees F. It started to get foggy and the mist instantly turned to ice on the props and body. I got a max repms reached warning when just hovering and landed to investigate and discovered all of the prop leading edges had heavy ice build up.

Not happy with X5 quality of pics. Advise pls.

A lot of the softness in these photos has to do with atmospheric haze. Being really far away from stuff on a hazy day is going to cut down on your resolution. No two ways about it. I Find the stock 15mm lens to be very sharp. As sharp as the 45mm and sharper than the 14-45 zoom.

    Max motor speed reached

Here's another reason that you see this warning - icing on your props. Glad I got the warning and landed. all the leading edges were iced up pretty good. Nick

X5 matching footage with ground cameras

I know we shot in 4k with no color settings, just the default. We don't usually shoot in log I don't think. As far as aliasing, That depends on what resolution and what you are viewing it on. If you are trying to watch it in a window on a computer in anything other than the number of pixels it...

X5 matching footage with ground cameras

I can ask our post supervisor what they used to add the people in that shot. I am not involved in post other than to sit in on final color correction. Nick

X5 matching footage with ground cameras

"At 1.27 seconds of footage across two separate scenes there isn't a whole lot of time to pixel peep!" Very true ;-) but it doesn't jump out as out of place. That particular movie that's the only trailer released to the public yet so I can't show anything else. I believe there is a 90second...

X5 matching footage with ground cameras

I believe we shoot 4k with no color settings, 1/60th of second shutter with a pola and NDs to get the exposure somewhere around a 5.6/8 (Daytime obviously, at night all the filters come out and we rate it at 800asa). We just treat it like a real camera. On that film we ended up using the inspire...

X5 matching footage with ground cameras

I have intercut Red Dragon footage and x5 footage and they match pretty well. If you pixel peep you can figure out whats what, but for all intents and purposes they look great together example - Nick

X5 only 60mbps is this a big issue?

It depends on what tools you use, and how you go about manipulating it. As a director of photography, my job is to shoot the footage as close to what it is supposed to look like as possible. The less you mess with the image the less all of those things become a problem. I shot something like 20...

X5 only 60mbps is this a big issue?

One final note, and I'll shut up, if you are shooting at a 1/48th shutter, as you should to cut with any other 24fps footage, all that superfine detail in the grass that you see in the inspire because there is no iris, so you are shooting at some stupid shutter speed, is now all gone due to...

X5 only 60mbps is this a big issue?

I like the footage I've seen. I make moving pictures for a living. I am really excited to have a real iris and a real lens, and control over my shutter speed on a tiny 4k camera in the sky. I have cut inspire footage with Dragon footage. Nobody ever threw down their soda pop and screamed...

X5 only 60mbps is this a big issue?

Mr. Jeep is correct. I own Red Dragon cameras. I have been shooting high resolution motion pictures for quite some time, from 35mm film through the various HD formats to 6k anamorphic. If it looks good it's good. Pixel nerds (industry term) can squawk all they want, but if it looks good, it's...

    Disable auto landing gear lower

Well, thanks again guys, I must have tried this on the previous firmware update. Works like a charm now after testing. Wished I'd known on my last shoot. Was shooting motorcycles at close range from a follow car and everytime I dropped down to scrape the pavement the gear dropped into the...
