Can confirm across several Inspires that both should be spring loaded. I wouldn't expect to get power issues as those springs are meant to push the battery out when lock is disengaged so I personally don't think the spring itself is the cause of your bird not powering up

They didn't when I took my initial exam about half a year ago. Don't know if it means it's gone completely or if I just didn't get one on my exam.

Can you specify which drone? I believe, as far as I know, the Inspire drones have a flight controller with 4 separate ESCs so theoretically, you should be able to easily swap ESC boards as a troubleshooting method.
