As many of you probably know, Florida Drone Supply and a handful of its clients had the opportunity to fly for both energy companies and telecom companies immediately after Hurricane Irma made landfall in Florida.

Following Hurricane Irma, Hurricane Maria wiped out essentially all of the power grid and telecom in Puerto Rico and we have again been contacted to see if our pilots are interested in going to Puerto Rico to fly and assist with things there.

We currently have multiple deployments getting ready to go to Puerto Rico as well as opportunities to fly in California for telecom companies due to the wild fires.

Between all of the deployments there are likely 50+ pilots needed and we are trying to help fill as many of the spots as we can with Florida Drone Supply clients and with members of the forums we support.

Contracts range from as little as a couple weeks to as long as ninety days. Terms vary depending on who you are flying for, what equipment is required and the length of the time you are asked to fly.

If you have any interest in working for power companies or doing tower inspections for telecommunications (or any of the other work that we get contacted about) we would love to help get you connected to these projects. Most of the time there is training available if you have not done this type of work before; so if you are interested but unfamiliar with the type of work, we can get you help with that.

To get on the list or to get more details about the timing, equipment requirements or the pay, register on our site and we will call you to talk specifics:

Pilot Network Registration
(Alternatively, you can just email to [email protected], but we are going to need to ask you the questions on the registration page anyway so that can save us a step if you use the website)

For us, it was a very unique and rewarding opportunity to fly and help in the wake of a natural disaster. The support and encouragement we received was amazing.

Here are a couple links to some news interviews I was asked to do during the Hurricane Irma recovery efforts:

Thanks everyone…we hope to fly with you sometime soon!

Dang. Wish I didn’t have a million and one things to do right now.

I responded to the Florida Drone Supply email. I was curious to see if there were any jobs where I’m at.

Amazingly enough...I received a call(the next day)for a job inspecting cell towers in the Northern Ca(San Francisco Bay Area). The contract was for some good coin and the length of the job is/was for 30 days.

I m a little apprehensive because I don’t know if it’s legit, plus I’m sure the fire zone areas are no fly zones at the moment.

Anyone can share their experiences... I hope I’m not passing up a good opportunity(if legit)

This is legit, I was deployed on one of the earlier contracts for hurricane Irma thru @Florida Drone Supply and Talon. I am sure they will have the proper waivers or permissions to fly the areas out west in/near the fire zones. I wish I could leave for 30 - 60 days and go to Puerto Rico or for the fires out west but can not leave my current clients for that long.

Thanks @SanCap good to know. I don’t have a waiver for the area. So that’s why I was hesitant...but I’ll reach back out to see if the opportunity is still available.

You do not need the waiver or permissions, they supply that. They have a series of protocols that need to be completed before you fly in a specific area.

Update 10/21:

We have had many, many people express their desire to be involved in helping both in Puerto Rico as well as California. I can’t say enough about how willing people were to get out there and help.

It looks like the first deployment of people will arrive in Puerto Rico around this coming Friday (90 days commitment). Details are being discussed now for a second and third wave around a week or so after the first group is established there.

We also have a substantial group of people standing by waiting for the California details.

We have tried to reach as many people as we could with the details (transportation, compensation, lodging, security detail, etc) but know we have not connected with everyone yet. We will continue to reach out to everyone and also send you a link to supplement the information you have already provided so we can be more aware of each person’s availability, required notice, maximum time away from home, desired location and any relevant experience you may have.

Thanks everyone - we will continue to keep you informed.

If I was not already working in Iraq I would definitely do this. 90 days would not be a big deal if the pay was right. I am in Iraq for 90 days at a time. I own a DJI Inspire 2 and would love to be able to do some work like this.

If you are in Iraq for 90 days I’m sure you are doing important work there for the greater good...thank you. If you have already registered with us we will automatically stay in contact with you about other things we can do together after you are done there. If you are not registerin* at this time, definitely reach out to us when you are back.

We are also working on some domestic, non emergency contracts that will need contract pilots too.

Thanks again!

I just registered with you and look forward to doing some training/work with you.

Registered with you and even got the telephone interview. The interviewer seemed genuinely interested and I hope I gave all the right answers. I still need to send off my x5s and have it checked. It can't detect the lens, however it still takes good video. I still have my Inspire 1 and my P4P to back it up with.
