How high to the ground sensors work?

I flew in a large room the other day, and it seemed to float around a lot. What should I be doing to get it to stay in one spot, or within a few inches?

I swear I read 5m somewhere. I have another question, does it work over water? It seemed to when fligh over a creek.

My guess is: if the water is calm the radar should reflect but "may" not on turbulent water.

40kHz hmm what would vibrate that fast? A humidifier? I would hate to see my bird crash when flying next to a vibrating toothbrush ;-D

I was flying up about 15 feet when it got wobbily, so being beyond the limit of about 8 feet would explain it. That, and the tile was a somewhat murky pattern, so that probably didn't help.
