    Inspire 2 Shot down tonight

Wow! I'm just reading this thread and it is unbelievable. For the record, and if this happens to anyone else who has a good idea who did it, the Police should be able to swab the likely shooter's hands for GSR (Gun Shot Residue). This will give an immediate indication if they have fired a weapon...

$13-14K TO SPEND IN POLICE UAV

They are. They won't be taking them to map the local nuclear power station either.

$13-14K TO SPEND IN POLICE UAV

Before you start buying kit you may want to ask the guys what they want to do with it. I was consulting with a local Police Force in the UK and they were looking to map some fairly sensitive infrastructure with their M600... that was until I pointed out the blindingly obvious that all of that...

Mapping - elevation and dimension accuracy

I understand that to be classed as "survey grade" you need to be able to achieve an accuracy of less than 3cm with your kit. That won't happen unless, as other have suggested, you are using ground control points (GCPs) and, in turn, surveying the location of those points with a "survey grade...

    Large mapping job with Inspire?

I suppose it depends if the client wants a single draggable 1200 ha map or would be happy for it to be delivered in 200 acre chunks. If it is the latter then the only limitation is the time it will take you to do it. I know of a company that used Phantoms to map a local 15 mile road bypass...

    3d modelling

I did this with a trial (free) version of DroneDeploy. An initial overhead grid in drone deploy, followed by a couple of rotations around the 2 main structures using the DJI Go app and manual shutter clicks. Then just throw the whole lot at DroneDeploy to crunch on their cloud (using their...

Ohhh sh!t in my pants moment

Busch, this is a great post. Firstly, because you got away with it, and secondly because you messed up and shared the potential problem with other users rather than keeping it quiet. In the world of flight safety there is much to learn from other people's experiences. It can be hard flying...

    Apparently I'm More of a N00b Than I Thought!

Sorry to hear about the PITA you are having with this purchase. They are frustrating to start with and it is simple things like having to tap then hold the power buttons to turn things on and off that you just have to learn by osmosis. Once you get up and running they are great bits of kit and...

    Superfluous Inspire parts????

What I find more annoying is the material used to make the rubber grommet just behind that clip (and others on the frame) must actually chemically designed to attract and stick every bit of sand and debris that I have ever flown near! I see you have the same problem :-/ Total bugger to clean...

    Vertical speed low

I thought I was imagining it since I don't have a huge amount of hours on this Inspire but the descent rate has gone down drastically since the recent software upgrade. I hope I don't have to ever conduct an emergency decent.

Why are my photos less than 12mb with the x3?

Best option I have found by far is the Adobe Creative Cloud. A 'photographer' subscription gets you Photoshop, Bridge and Lightroom at the latest version for about $8 a month. For video I bought Final Cut Pro but you probably don't need that high quality if you are just messing about. iMovie...

Why are my photos less than 12mb with the x3?

You can't really just print a RAW image but you can open it in decent computer based software. Once you have manipulated it you can save it as a Jpeg (which will be compressed) or a .TIF which is usually uncompressed and contains far more digital information. The question is do you need that...

Why are my photos less than 12mb with the x3?

I shoot everything on all digital cameras in RAW; It gives me loads more options to manipulate with decent software like photoshop. When cameras do a basic Jpeg compression they just blob areas of the screen that are of similar colour and tone together as one 'pixel', hence the final image size...

Why are my photos less than 12mb with the x3?

I would imagine that it is like any other digital camera that does a jpeg compression within the camera. Unless you are shooting in RAW your pictures will never be the same as the resolution quoted by the sensor manufacturer.

FAA list of fines against UAS operators

107 will probably just do away with some of the b/s paperwork that we all have to do in order to operate these things legally. For example it is pointless that 5000 people have to petition that they cannot "display the certificate of airworthiness in the cockpit", put a 12" tall N-Number on the...
