Yes, you can get decent results with a single remote.

Mine still works at pretty much 2 kilometers with the latest firmware.

I have heard of that happening if you raise the Inspire off the ground whilst it is in the process of changing from travel to active mode or vice versa but that was a few firmwares ago.

I have real issues with white balance and overexposure in high contrast situations on my inspire 1
