Drone Has 'Very Near Miss' Near The Shard in London

The airprox was obviously reported but the details, as reported by the media, dont make sense.

If the aircraft was heading south at 4900 ft it was not on final approach as the runways are east/west at Heathrow. It sounds more like it had left the stack and was decending to 3000 for the ILS. If it was on an intercept heading for the ILS it would have been well east of the shard.

But that's just me being pedantic.

I'm not saying it was not a drone, but being able to positively identify an small object/ bird/drone , especially when you're not expecting it and whilst in a critical phase of flight doing 220 reducing to 180 kts is bordering on superhuman. Whatever it was would have shot past in the blink of an eye.

The Daily Mirror (in the uk) had this as frontpage news today.
