    Latest DJI firmware update problems

Boy, these DJI firmware update posts are getting old aren't they? I recently updated my iOS, and updated to the latest controller firmware and DJI GO app on my iPad Pro. Now the controller is not recognized by the DJI GO app. Multiple iPads, iPhone 6s, cables, and two controllers. I've tried...

    360 VR by drone

I think you're on the right track. It's too bad DJI is stingy with their pin-outs. I've thought about taking one of those iPhone gimbals or an even a parted-out Osmo and hard-mounting to the bottom of the battery case. Cheers, and good luck!

    360 VR by drone

I've also tried mounting both a 360fly and Theta S on a modified lens cap on an X5R and X5 gimbal, but the weight/moment was always way too front-heavy. I've resorted to bottom- (or back-) mouting with 1/4-20 screws I've modified the battery compartment to expose, and then doing correction in...

    360 VR by drone

If you've got an I2 it might be big enough to bottom mount something like a lightweight hand-held 3 axis gimbal, like this AFI A5 3-axis Stabilization Handheld Gimbal for Sports Camera -$120.46 Online Shopping| GearBest.com You can also use various software for post-production horizon...

Hobbyist shouldn't be tracked by FAA

Well let me add my 2 cents. I see manned aircraft under 400ft All The Time over my property. Usually either Helo's from 34th street heliport on ill-advised nap-of-the-earth sightseeing tours, or military aircraft doing mountain terrain training out of Stewart International. Your mileage may...

New FAA UAV Regulations (Let the screaming begin!)

My understanding is this: the main differentiator is if you fly as Part 101 (Hobbyist -- "model aircraft") or as Part 107 ("commercial sUAS)" If you strictly fly as Part 101 the registration number can be used on multiple airframes. If 107, each one has to be individually registered, at least...

    Horrifying crash into crowd

Well, first, I agree with you. But let me play devil's advocate for a moment. Say your under-2kg drone, with a 7.9V 750mAh LiPo fully charged gets ingested into a Bell's turbofan engine intake... I think instant release of 21,000 joules will leave more than just a mark.

    Horrifying crash into crowd

This may not be a logical answer that you happen to like, but, here goes: There have been thousands and thousands of carefully constructed safety studies over the last 100 years of manned aviation. The safety issues are all also written in blood. Every paragraph in 14 CFR was written because...

USA Title 14 CFR Part 107 Waivers (Post your approved/rejected)

If your start and/or end times are past civil twilight, yeah they're going to kick it back to "manual approval" which means... welcome back to the portal ghetto with me, brother.

    Horrifying crash into crowd

My production crew actually made a $15K Inspire 2 with VR camera rig eat s*** and die (literally, more on that in a moment). Inspire 2 is a remarkably stable bird, but every drone and their ESC's have limits. Crew had tandem carbon fiber arms mounted on the legs, with PixPro's at the ends...

USA Title 14 CFR Part 107 Waivers (Post your approved/rejected)

I'll note that we're well into Winter 2017, so I imagine a lot of people sleeping in squeaky heavy-as-a-dumptruck steel govt issue chairs with their feet on their desks in their dingy cublices. "Ah f-it. The private sector will handle it now"

USA Title 14 CFR Part 107 Waivers (Post your approved/rejected)

It's not in the Airmap nor Skyward apps AFAICT... the FAA maintains a poorly maintained list at FAA Facilities participating in LAANC Initial Prototype Evaluation – Fall 2017

USA Title 14 CFR Part 107 Waivers (Post your approved/rejected)

It HAS been getting better for routine requests lately. But, yes, it smells of healthcare.gov when they first rolled that out -- a raging fustercluck. Large area waivers and combo's still go into the manual pile, and by the time they get back to you, it'll be Indiana Jones finding you guarding...
