4k videos - computer requirements?

Hi,

maybe a naive question for some, but is it possible to playback full 4k movies on my fairly standard 3 yrs old lenovo business laptop or a decent 5 year old iMac?

If so, what specific setup / software / codesc etc do I need? Currently I get very jerky playback, impossible to watch.

Lastly, I have a great brand new 4K TV. What is the best way to playback my inspire 4k videos on this?

Even the 1080P video I gave my friend to play on his older (2003-2005 era) computer would not play. I have an i7 quad core and 4K is even slightly sluggish on my 4K Monitor.

As far as playback on your 4K TV, as far as I know, you will need a computer to play it probably using an HDMI or DP cable.

I can play mine simply by plugging it in through a SD card reader using USB.
