That's what self adaptive landing gear switch is for.

okaaaaay? whats that? all i know is when hovering over an object the other day it decided enough is enough and put the arms down, annoying me greatly as it loses altitude when it transforms,

There is a switch in the app that turns the automatic (adaptive landing gear) lowering/raising of the landing gear on or off. When off you may not be annoyed.
