Here is the big question…..did you use Paypal Goods and Services?I was pointed to @Dji_freak, aka [email protected] by a member of this forum. Took me for $170 for some X5R parts then vaporized. AVOID AT ALL COSTS.
I have to agree with Mike on this one. Almost the day Paypal was founded I signed up, and then funded it with a zero-liability credit card. That two layer onion saved me from losing $3,000 on a single transaction from an eBayer who tried to rip me off. This was circa 2000. I was in my thirties. Here is the big question…..did you use Paypal Goods and Services?
I hate to blame the victim but at this point in time, with as much scamming as everyone knows is happening, if you don’t use G&S like it says to do in the classified rules you might better just give your money to some bum on the street.

Some of them are pretty slick and they know a lot of older folks on here don’t know jack about internet transactions and safety.I have to agree with Mike on this one. A couple clichés comes to mind. I'm sure @shv2sail has learned his lesson. I would consider $170 a fairly cheap price for the lesson learned here. Like I said, one guy tried to take me for $3,000, and he ALMOST succeeded.

Hehe...not to one up you, but only $16K worth of checks???...<;^)Some of them are pretty slick and they know a lot of older folks on here don’t know jack about internet transactions and safety.
I have $16,000 worth of fake cashiers checks from back when the Nigerians were well known for scamming. They were good enough to fool banks unless the teller was smart enough to call and verify.

I was into, and still am to a point, internet sales of all sorts for the last 30 years so I have run across a few here and there.Hehe...not to one up you, but only $16K worth of checks???...<;^)
I run these scammers rampant every opportunity I get. I have a pile of checks - most of them in UPS overnight envelopes. I'm always happy to show them to anybody willing to take a gander at them.
I used to teach a computer class at a Senior Living Community, so I would pass them around the class and have the students guess if the checks were real or fake. The latest check I received, about 2 months ago, was very convincing. Not to me, of course, but I could see how someone could be fooled. I'm sort of an amateur scam-baiter. Sounds like you are, too.
Here's my first scam bait. NOTE: This is my personal website, which was built by hand in Notepad in 2005, which may get flagged as "unsecure" (no htttps required). Rest assured, it's just a bunch of text and photos. This page was built and deployed 20 years ago and runs on a Linux server under my desk in my home office. So it no longer lives up to Google's standards. Scr*w them. Don't get me started...
