This doesn't help you in the matter you asked but to view info from .DAT files use this:

You get the map plus speed and altitude

Cool thanks for the link! No problem getting Lat and Long from the KML, but now we just need a way to export that speed, altitude and time in a .csv. (It would also be excellent to have access to the camera angle as well! )
