Just out of curiosity

Most of the time but depends on the airspace and operation. Not always necessary but particularly around some of our Southern California airspace it's nice to be in the know.

Same here. I carry my VHF handheld when flying near airports and certain airspace as the need arises.

I always have in the case with my gear even away from airspace in the middle of nowhere I've had crop dusters come in fast & low, so I have it just in case I need to let them know I'm there...

Mines with me most of the time. Too many low flying helicopters in my area not to have one.

Yes but most people (in the UK) will be unable to transmit and only listen unless they hold an amateur radio license.
Still a good piece of kit to have in the toolbox

I do. I have an aviation radio and that helps you to hear the manned aircrafts traffic in the area you fly

Just completed my RePL & AROC course (Licenced & a/wait p/work), and have one on the way, and yes, i do intend to carry at all times.
