Low battery temp

That is just a video that I found on youtube to show that the batteries needed to be updated. For 1.5 I did remove the log file though, and all updated without error. I will have to make a note for the future updates to keep the extra step out

Phew - I wish you had said that that was an old YT video earlier!
I could see all sorts of problems trying to run that combination - in fact, thinking about it, it should never have worked.
The age of that video explains it though.

Out of curiosity, when flying in low temps what change in battery temp do people see while flying? For example, if the air temp was 10F and the battery temp at startup was, say, 20F, what change would you expect to see while flying?

Brian

I'm seeing the following:
4 flights- TB47 and TB48 Air temp -10 C, start battery temp 15- 20 C, flight temp after 1 min hover 25 - 35 C. Total flight times have been about 10-12 mins at 50% landing voltage.
12 flights- TB47 and TB48 AT -13 to -15 C, SBT 15- 17 C, 1 min hover T 20-30 C, 10 mins flight time to 50 % note: one flight where pack temp was only 20 C at end of flight was due to me intentionally flying without a battery insulation sticker to see the effect.
1 flight- TB48 AT -24 C, SBT 15.6 C, 1 min hover T 20.5 C, 6 mins at 60% landing temp was 20 C. I noticed the camera gimbal felt slow to move at this temp, didn't investigate this further as it was too bloody cold for me.

Most of the flights have been with iPad Air 2. I have not had any issues with iPad shutting down to cold. With my samsung tab s I've had it shut down due to cold on half the flights, but it wasn't fully charged when starting flights.
The RC battery has no had issues with cold and i keep it warm while switching packs between flights, warming up. I leave the I1 outside between flights. As soon as I bring the I1 inside the metal parts get some condensation on them so I have been putting it in front of a slow fan to help it dry out.

Thanks for posting those results - much appreciated.
To be honest, at temps anywhere around 5degrees C or below about two batteries is all I can mange before my fingers and thumbs lose the will to live.

My packs would not start to day at 14c. Both fired up at 16c so the 15c sounds about rite. P3 packs did the same

To update the other batteries you have to leave the FW on the card and update each one, it won't update if you remove the FW.

Sounds like one is updated and the other is not.

Well I won't be seeing 5 C till March or so. Each flight we are inside warming up between batteries. But it does make for some nice pics and video. Here's a quick one I did for friends for Christmas.

Fond memories of Alberta in Winter -- when I lived in Calgary the ice fog was killer!

well, i had my first "no fly" due to battery temp<15°c. I used to fly last winter w/ no issues. I just ordered 2 battery warmers to avoid this "no joy" situation again. I get it, and now have to amend my pre-flight checklist and ops manuals to add these new requirements.

Last summer the temperature was in the range of 10C to 15C and yes I was happily flying with the batteries at these temperatures. I noticed that my flight times were reducing. With FW 1.6 and pre-warming with the Battery Heater, I am getting better flight times and less of the battery cell traffic light flashing even with temperture around freezing. I have learned more about LiPo performance with the DJI changes.

So I did another flight tonight with a TB48 that had 23 charges, -9 C OAT, go app 2.4.2 and a FLIR camera. I let the battery temp drop down to 10.2 C and was able to start the motors with no issues. Took some pics with FLIR both before takeoff and hover.
