Lets say that perhaps I did want to shell out $2K on an X5S. Is there another way to attached and use a different camera that has a USB or HDMI output and have it show up on the controller?

So, you have titled this thread relating to an Inspire 1, posted in the Inspire 2 section but asking about an X5S so what are you exactly asking and for what aircraft?

The answer to your question is no. Due to the proprietary interface between gimbal (camera) and Inspire 2 Ncore and how the processing is shared between the camera and aircraft.

Get a x4s camera which is cheaper but may be hard to find new
