Yes, practice, practice, practice .. but - what are the tips from those who've got this down?
The need to modulate slightly forward while banking makes my thumb epileptic!
I can easily fly circles around myself so the gear is up to it but move the point to elsewhere and "grrr".

I use the little white dot in the centre of my screen to concentrate on my circle when making circles

Try pinching instead of thumbing - it will give you finer control.
I'm surprised you haven't taken the easy route like everybody else and cheat and use POI in the app.

To be honest.....nor am I. I can get better results flying circles manually but I have had lots of practice going round in circles all my life.
