Hi, I’m visiting the US and was wondering what is required for me to fly, just for fun. I understand that you have to register, but do I also have to register on some sort of national Hobby model aircraft site or just follow their rules? I’m assuming I can only register under section 336?

You need to register your drone on the FAA Drone Zone site. You then have to display your registration number on your drone.

The FAA also requires that you unregister your drone in any other country in which it is registered, but I can't imagine how they would enforcement that.

You're right, they can't. They have absolutely no legal powers in any other country.
They also cannot insist that you 'de-register' in another country - it's none of their business.
