We have a Matrice 600 with a magnetometer attached. We do not have a camera. We want to fly field surveys with an app such as Dronedeploy or Map Pilot, etc. So far we have not been able to find one that doesn't require communication with a camera in order to work. Does anyone know of an app that would work without a camera?

Which apps have you tried?

We have tried Drone Deploy, Map Pilot and a just about any other ones we could find that are compatible with the Matrice 600. So far they all work until you try to upload the mission or hit the go button then they ask for the camera.

To be clear, we are not experienced using a magnotometer and are only offering suggestions. Have you tried DJI's Ground Station Pro? Did you have to remove the camera and mount, to mount the magnetometer? Could you simply mount an X3 to allow the system to recognize the camera and start its mission?

OK, we found an app that works without a camera (even though it says it detects a camera). It is called Pix4Dcapture. We have now flown 4 various missions with it and it works good.

We are glad you found something that works for you and would love to see a sample of what you are doing if you can share. We have used Pix4Dcapture for mapping but never without a camera.

I'll try to get you a sample map. We take the magnetometer readings and run them through some mapping software which shows where there are concentrations of iron ore. We are still experimenting to determine best altitude, etc. to fly at. We will probably get a camera so we can fly with the Map Pilot software which will allow us to fly at a constant altitude above the terrain versus a set altitude from take off point. We are currently in Mexico where getting parts can be a bit of a problem. We are trying to locate a Zenmuse X5 camera and mounting hardware down here. If we bring it in from the US the Mexican customs tend to sit on it for weeks.........lol.

Thanks for the added info. We will keep our eyes and ears open, maybe one of our clients might have something for sale.

Just some further info about Pix4D............if you get out of radio range the drone just keeps flying its mission and returns to home when finished. We are currently flying in the low laying mountains on the Mexican coast and have flown about 8 missions in the last two days where we were totally out of visual range and radio contact for over 15 minutes. The remote controller even shut it self down a few times thinking it wasn't being used. We even flew during the eclipse today.......
