First off I did a search for this and didn't find the answer so [i either suck at searching or the question isn't out there]...

Did a job that required unlocking the area I was going to fly. Did everything I was supposed to in my hotel room the night before, got the authorization, and while still on wifi powered up the drone and app just in case it needed to somehow sync the info.

Got to the location the next day and my drone "bounced" off an invisible barrier. I was without wifi and I don't have data on my iPad. Thankfully the producer had a hot spot on his phone and once I tapped into that I was able to get everything cleared and the invisible barrier went away.

Question being, how do we unlock zones ahead of time while nowhere close to the zone so that by the time we get there everything is fine?

Are you discussing RED ZONE individual (custom unlock) 90 days or the 3 day YELLOW ZONE. They are different procedures.

You can unlock yellow zones on the Dji website pal before hand. Its the same as unlocking on site but it gives you a longer window. I dont have the link to hand sorry.

Basic 3 day unlock:
If you are in the RED ZONE you need to use:
and provide permission from tower or your NOTAM or similar.
CAUTION BUGGY beyond the AD as the flight system is buggy in a RED ZONE. API apps don't recognize the custom unlock and it can take 5+ days to secure an unlock.
CAUTION BUGGY flying the transition edge is crazy. Must take off in RED to be unlocked and crossing the line can cause it to force a lower max altitude or even autoland.

This was for a yellow zone and I went through the authorization process the night before with no issues. The problem was it didn't work when I got to the actual location the next day. The only thing that saved me is that I was able to jump on a wifi hotspot while there in order to somehow sync the authorization with the drone. I did not need to go through the whole process again - I simply had to log in to my account and agree to the terms and then it worked fine. So obviously I'm missing a step somewhere because I should have been good to go without syncing on location.

There is a WIFI free solution in the custom unlock stream. I have not tried it but it will supposedly unlock a zone for up to 90 days and NOT require Internet.

I had the same proble., just this morning. But even linking to WiFi did not correct it. I unlocked the area beforehand, but every time I tried to take off I got the warning of being in a NFZ. When I attempted to unlock again, via the DJI GO App, the app would crash. I tried with multiple devices and on and off wifi. This may have lost me a big client and I am very displeased. I have followed all of the proper channels, even waiting 90 days for a flight authorization, working with the ATC, and unlocking on DJI's Geo Unlock system. All of these have failed me and resulted in traveling several hours for a flight that I was unable to even start.
