Is it safe to use the high capacity batteries from my OsmoPro X5 in the X3 Osmo? This may be a really stupid question.

Most likely more than your phone can handle... I use an iPhone6.. she gets hot after a while, but you should have no problems with straight 35-45 min filming before your phone will need a charge. YMMV.
I have a galaxy Note 3 and it sees off 2/3 980mah batteries very easily.
So, I upped the game and now I run my Osmo on a TB47, the Note 3 doesn't stand a chance anymore. I have a camera bag (with shoulder strap) for a compact laying around that fits the TB47 in to it nice and snug.
