Inspire 1 and Ipad Mini4 having DJI Go issues

I picked up an Inspire 1 that was missing the gimbal and X3 camera. These were sadly badly damaged during a bad landing but the drone survived fine. It flies well and as expected but obviously no video.
When I hook up my Ipad Mini4 which has the DJI Go app installed, and start up the controller and drone, the DJI Go app starts automatically and for about 5 seconds the normal navigation screen opens up and then drops out and returns to my Mini 4 home page.
A very quick warning shows on the screen just before the drop out. It alerts that there is no video found.
I don't care about the missing video but I certainly want the regular navigation screen to function.
Any clues what may be going on here?

I found the Go App v3.1.1 (iOS) was the last stable, reliable version (for me, anyway). Android has always been sketchy (see numerous complaints in this forum). If you can borrow an iPad, try that.
