Hello everyone.
I'm new here, posting a question for my husband from Japan. We've been looking around the web for answers and can't find what we're looking for so I'm hoping someone here can help us. I'm not very good with the technical terms and drone terminology but here goes.

We have an Inspire 1, purchased in Japan. My husband tells me it uses a 2.4 GHz antenna while other models (from countries other than Japan) use a higher frequency. The max flight distance is about half of what the US model gets. We've installed the DBS antenna to get more distance but it's still not getting the boost we were expecting.
We're open to just buying a whole new set up if we have to, but with importing costs it's quite expensive. If possible we'd like to just change the internal components to US versions but we're not sure if this would work, and we're not sure what to change. I'm assuming the antennas to start, but what else?
We also don't know if we'd need a whole new controller or not.
We have taken apart the whole drone, for waterproofing with corrosion x, so the difficulty isn't really an issue.

Any advice would be appreciated! TIA!

I'm not 100% sure, others please chime in but I believe:

1: The RC mw output is limited from where you are flying, taken from the GPS. So i don't think it matters from where you purchase the craft. It will automatically adjust the output from where you are flying to match the law in the actual country. At least I think this is true in US and EU were two different mw outputs are being used.

2: The frequencies being used are one for video and one for controlling the craft. 2.4 and 5.8 ghz and that is what I think will be used in Japan too.

Out of interest, what is the distance you get before either video or the RC signal is getting lost?

Thanks for your reply!

My husband is under the impression that the version sold in Japan, only Japan, is different from overseas versions. Overseas versions do sell for significantly more and people claim to get better distance with them.
We get 2 kilometers and then the video goes out. With the DBS antenna mod, we've gotten a max of 7 kilometers, at the beach going in a straight line. 4-5 in a normal populated area.

Found this in the Inspire 1 specs. Apparently you are unique ! :) I assume the MIC compliant note is in regards to your local laws. Back to your original question. I don't know, but I guess the TX and RX part in both the craft and the RC is different to being able to work with that different frequency. On the other hand. Your booster seems to make it work as good as the US version.

Model
GL658A
Operating Frequency 922.7-927.7 MHz (Japan Only)
5.725-5.825 GHz
2.400-2.483 GHz
Max Transmitting Distance(unobstructed, free of interference) Up to 5 km or 3.1 miles when FCC compliant
Up to 3.5 km or 2.1 miles when CE compliant
Up to 2 km or 1.2 miles when MIC compliant

Yes, we've seen these specs. The US version with the DBS antenna can get 10+ kilometers, apparently. He wants to be able to do this, for some reason that is beyond my interest lol
My husband has the proper license and everything to use the stronger radio waves here so the law isn't the problem. There's a lot of people flying the US versions, even without the license.
So I guess we need to change the TX and RX? What are these? My husband might know, but he may not know the English acronyms

You will need to replace the RC controller and then the receiver (I assume it's the whole lightbridge part) in the craft. It will probably cost too much to justify. I would sell the current Inspire 1 and then purchase a US/EU version from Ebay (or somewhere else) I don't think all users are in need of that distance and the price tag trying to replace the RC and parts will be higher than switch the whole setup. On top of that I'm not sure how to get the hands of the lightbridge/receiver spare part. I belive it's this part DJI Inspire 1 T600 Drone Ncore Component, Light bridge HD Controller Fan,Compass | eBay
