I was looking for a hard shell case for the Inspire and was gobsmacked at how expensive they are. $400+ for a plastic box and foam? It couldn’t cost more than $25 to manufacture. I smell collusion...

Is there a reasonable case option out there for an Inspire 2? I can understand $400 for a Pelican case that will be checked on an airline, but I just needed something to transport the bird in and out of my car...[emoji848]

Not as much collusion as it is a case of pricing an item based on the market that you are selling it to. I see it all the time in the IT industry. Sell a consumer/home PC at a decent price. Put the same components in a slightly different shell, call it a business class PC, and jack up the price because you are selling it to a market with deeper pockets.

The same can be said for these cases. I can get a very nice Nanuk case for my P4P for around $150. A comparable case for my I2 would be close to $400. No major differences in the case/foam and even very similar in size. They just assume that the I2 is used more by businesses and that they can afford the higher cost.

My question is why you don't just use the case that the I2 came in from the factory. It's not quite the same as the hard shell cases but it works well, protects the hardware, and isn't terribly huge.

I haven't found one. I use the DJI case for local use finding it works for most jobs and ONLY use the big hulking case (found on eBay for half original cost) when shipping to an out of town location.

If you only knew the markup on one of these cases...they make a killing. I've been holding off until I can get a good deal

If you are only after hard shell case for air travel you might like to look at
B&W Folding Brompton bike travel case.
It accomodates the DJI case.

Sorry for the semi-related response. For the bird I use DJI's case. Often I simply transport to the site with the I2 ready to go WITHOUT the camera hanging under it. The batteries are ALWAYS in a carrying case. You can buy some really cheap and great cases for the batteries of any size if you shop in the gun area of the sporting good store. Many of the gun cases have foam in the case that is sectioned and allows removal of foam so the batteries are firmly in the case. My two bits....S

I have all my birds, I2, Mavic, Mavic Air, P4P's, Spark in Lowepro backpacks... that way I can just grab and go... carry my Mavic back pack with Mavic, 3 batt, go pro 7, go pro 5, 4 different bracket/clmps, gorilla pod, Tascam recorder, headphones et al... with me all the time.

For the Inspire it may seem a little iffy, as the arms stick out... but if you are constantly aware of them and be careful then its ok... in this configuration it is way more manageable - sling it on shoulder and off you go...

All good ideas. I do jobs off road on trails. When needed I still use the DJI I2 case and bought a cheap hunter's backpack that has a bottom shelf. It is perfect for setting the square case on and cinching it down with straps. Rock solid and all the stuff is in the case including my Crystalsky. HOWEVER, I do not put my batteries in the I2 case in the winter. I have a converted fishing vest with the batteries in the utility pockets. Then I put my coat over that. When really cold I simply buy hand warmers and add them to the pockets. Here in MT we work year-round :)

Aloha... yeah I do a lot of 4x4 all over the island (HI) and this backpack has made a huge difference in portability... don't have to worry about batteries getting cold... truly don't know how you guys handle it - the cold that is... suppose you get used to it :) - everything I need 3 sets of batteries and my cs fit into it nicely... ohhh Montana... had to look that up... (Englishman in USA :0)... some nice scenery up there I bet.

You know what is weird... with everything in the DJI case it weighs a hell of a lot more than all the components out and in my backpack... or so it seems... because the case doesn't appear to weigh anymore physically than the backpack... but mainly just not so ungainly
