rubber ring supplied with X5S 15mm kit

Am I missing something but what is the delicate rubber ring that is supplied with the X5S 15mm kit? It doesn't get a mention in the supplied quick start guide.

It seems to fit quite well over the hood?

Has anyone made their own duct protectors? What do you use?

It's only the DJI 15mm that's supplied with it. To be honest, I think it's purely cosmetic and they did it originally simply as a way to black out the markings on the lens barrel.
