Not a lover of the tilt shift, I get it having used tilt shift lenses in film production but I think the effect is just too much , what happens is our brains have to spend too much time trying to decode something that looks unnatural and that takes away the central subject.
Maybe try to use less of the blur effect which gets you the effect your aiming for without being overkill.
