I thought this would make a good thread for useful apps for uav pilots.

Iam thinking information that would be useful in the field when about to fly.

Such as weather apps for real local conditions.
Sun flare activity.
A good one to find would be away of measuring radio interference.in the area.
One that id's nearest telecommunication towers etc.

Basically anything that can make our pre flight checks more valuable.

Haven't tried it, but this sort of thing

ClapperPod HD - Digital Slate (iPhone & iPad)
for those who make films this is a digital clapperboard and recording sheet app. I think there is a free version and a paid version that removes the ads.

https://itunes.apple.com/gb/app/clapperpod-digitalslate-movie/id617475217?mt=8

Drone Vibes (iPhone)
is an app that makes it easy for you to isolate all sources of vibration on your UAV

Helios Sun Position Calculator (iPhone)
for anyone who want to know where the sun will rise or fall at a given location or when it will pass a building then this is the App. with multiple viewing options and an augmented viewer it is my favoured App.

World Weather Radar - Rain & Weather (iPhone & iPad)
uses realtime doppler radar to show the approaching rain clouds, ideal for wet countries like the UK where you can use to predict when the rain clouds will pass or when there is a break to film. Works in many countries worldwide. I have used this a lot to establish how long to wait before I can film. There are two version the free and paid for which has more features from memory.

Free Version https://itunes.apple.com/gb/app/world-weather-radar-free-rain/id649264704?mt=8
Paid Version https://itunes.apple.com/gb/app/world-radar-rain-weather-forecast/id649246860?mt=8

Windsock (iPhone)
This is a great app that allows you to see what the wind and weather conditions are at your location. It also allow you to see sunrise/sunset, you can set limits as well as the app show you the direction of the wind. it seems its ‘Off line” from the AppStoire but a new version will be available soon by the comments on their website

Sun Seeker (iPhone & iPad)
Similar to Helios with sun tracks, and augmented reality camera views and google map underlays.
https://itunes.apple.com/gb/app/sun-seeker-3d-augmented-reality/id330247123?mt=8

UK AirspaceAVOID (iPad)
This App is effectively designed for Pilots and whilst there is limited map detail it shows UK Airspace with filters for flight levels and probably the most important a list of local NOTAMS for Commercial UAV Pilots for reference

A little "Off Topic" but if you have an iPhone then as a serious photographer

ProShot
this is a professional paid for App (£2 from memory) for the iPhone which allows all the features of a modern DSLR with all the different camera modes, exposure compensation, time lapse, burst modes, focus, depth of field, ISO and Shutter speed selection. The list goes on. It is the most feature rich camera app for the serious photographer who wants to have a spare camera.

I know you asked for apps, but this website allows you to see Visual Flight Rules (VFR) sectionals overlaid with roadmaps. These hybrid sectionals identify all airspace types as well as tower and/or obstruction height, radio frequency, radio control aircraft operation areas, special information, no-fly areas, etc. etc. etc. It's mobile friendly and is a must have tool for anyone interested in flying like a professional. The one draw back is that you'll have to do some youtube studying to learn to read sectionals unless you've taken a ground school course.

Sky Demon Lite gives up-to-date CAA-sourced mapping of all airfield traffic zones and airspace types along with all danger, prohibited and restricted areas for the UK. Plot a route through your planned flying site and you will get the latest NOTAMs. It also gives the contact numbers for ATC at airports. It is also available as a website.

And the app version gives METAR's and TAF's as well for the route/area of operation :)

If you're in Australia, then OzRunways is just about a must have.
It's not free, but with classes of airspace, flight zones, instant measurement with 2 fingers on the map to find out how far you are from that heliport, NOTAMS, CTAF frequencies, basically just about everything a pilot could need.
