Dear DJI Customer,

At DJI we are dedicated to creating the world’s most advanced flying platforms and camera stabilization systems. This dedication extends to our desire to provide quality products that go above and beyond the needs of our customers. However, it has come to our attention that non-DJI authorized mounting plates for the 1345S Quick-Release Propellers for the DJI Inspire 1 are being sold online by non-authorized vendors. Please note that using non-DJI authorized mounting plates may severely damage the aircraft’s propellers, lead to potential safety issues due to the lack of self-lubrication, or cause damage through their rough surfaces, hardness and sharp edges. For safety reasons, we strongly recommend using only official DJI mounting plates available at http://store.dji.com/.

Safety Note
To avoid damaging your propellers and mounting plates during locking and unlocking, gently press down on a propeller’s central nut while it is being secured or removed. If you release or attach a propeller too often without pressing down on the central nut, the locking structure may be damaged. If the propeller can be removed without you having to press down on the central nut, then either the propeller or the mounting plate may have become worn, and should be replaced before flying the Inspire 1 again. Please strictly follow the instructions in the user manual to replace and install damaged parts. We highly recommend using a torque wrench to install the mounting plates and set the screw torque between 0.5 Nm to 0.8 Nm.

Thank you for your understanding.

I ordered 6st QR-propellers and mounting plates from Extreme UAS on 23/3 .. Have a faint feeling that I will never get them. Has pointed out that I never got them and they would check up, then I have not heard anything, despite a reminder a month ago via email. Thats customer service at a high level.. :)

But the more I read, so I think it was just as well that I never got them.

Is warranty voided when using non-DJI authorized mounting plates?
I personally don't use them as I am a strong believer of redundancy and that's why I'm still using self tightening props and prop locks but I know a lot of people who have made the transition to said mounting plates.

Dear DJI
It has come to our attention that your plastic crap "self lubricating" QR hubs are cracking and wearing prematurely causing sudden ejaculation of your QR props ending in total destruction of our $4500 drone... Please advise your solution and guarantee a FULL REPLACEMENT of our Inspire 1 if the aforementioned part fails mid air because of your incompetence and poor design and inability to produce robust parts for such a craft. You are also advised that CASA in Australia has advised many chief controllers here NOT TO USE the QR props or failing hubs due to safety issues. I deem this message to your customers that YOU, DJI accept FULL responsibility for such failures And DJI will be held accountable in a court of law for such damages to person and property as a result of such OEM QR prop and hub failures.. If not, then fk off

I just want to point out, I've had over 30 flights now with the devils "NON DJI" alloy hubs, and have not witnessed any so called "severe damage the aircraft’s propellers, leading to potential safety issues due to the lack of self-lubrication, or cause damage through their rough surfaces, hardness and sharp edges"

What I have witnessed on an Inspire that had done 50+ flights with DJI hubs and props was abnormal wear to the lugs on the hubs, and while there was no wear to the props, the hubs could have failed on the next few flights..

As a qualified structural engineer with over 25 years experience in metallurgy, I find it totally unacceptable for DJI to release a statement like this when they know very well their own hubs are failing mid air due to abnormal wear and high load... DJI themselves use dissimilar plastic materials - its clear the hubs wear before the props, meaning the props are a harder material..

DJI, you looking like a pack of Amateurs..

@ Ward, no reason to kill the messenger I admire your passion that for sure, im sure that official statement came from DJI and not Taheo Ed personally, the reason I say this is I don't think Taheo Ed has any personal experience in using the Alloy Hubs himself to test, key word is "I don't think", so he really cant judge other then if someone reports they had failures to DJI, I don't know the Legal Standpoint of replicating a Patented Produced product ie Inspire 1 parts, but as a company they could not endorse it that's for sure, as you know I use the Alloy Hubs and have no wear on my props what so ever, I will be inspecting the props as I always do on my pre flight check list. I just want to think if people were having failures with the Alloy Hubs I think we would be hearing more about it. I am not surprised to see a statement like that at all. I will be looking at my Props more closely thanks to DJI to see if wear starts, I just have no sign of wear at all so far.

I'm pretty certain Ward's comments are directed at Dji and not Tahoe Ed.

If DJI say they accept 100% responsibility for everything that happens with the DJI QR hubs on, then I'll use them..

Without this guarantee, DJI can shove it up the... I hope Tahoe Ed can provide extensive tests comparing the Alloy and plastic hubs before stupid happens again.

And for CASA in Australia to issue warnings about using the DJI hubs then, well... that's gotta tell you something.

I don't think that Tahoe Ed can do that, I read allot of forums and have not heard of one instance of the Alloy Hub causing pre mature failure to the props. I like using the QR props and if the Alloy Hubs give me in my perspective at bit more ease knowing my hubs are not going to fail

The thing that Tahoe Ed doesn't realise is that by instigating this thread and clearly informing us NOT to remedy the issue DJI have presented us with, DJI has officially and automatically accepted responsibility for all failures, damages and personal injuries for Inspires using the DJI hubs..

Unless Tahoe Ed can physically justify with testing data and the like, why we are not able to remedy the issue by using high strength hubs, then I'm not sure what grounds DJI are basing their claims on.

I will take a snap shot of DJI's statement so that should any of my friends with Inspire's lose a craft due to failing plastic hubs, they can take this matter up in the courts especially in the case of personal or financial loss, personal injury and property damages

Are there any reports of the DJI plastic hubs failing then?

Well I can say I have read members had issues with the hub cracking at the mounting screws and others reported that the Tabs cracked or chipped prematurely. There are discussions asking DJI to correct the problem with no reply. I stopped using them for these reasons.

The stupid thing is that its the plastic hubs that are wearing, not the props. So the hubs are ultra soft, and the props are not.. I have no idea why DJI would be complaining about using metal hubs, when if the props are "installed and removed as per the DJI instructions" there won't be any wear at all.

I did another 50 install/removals tonight on a prop that's already been installed and removed 70 times, and the only thing showing wear is the metal retaining spring - gets shiny on the top side from wearing against the bottom of the prop.. funny that.. plastic wearing the metal..

So Tahoe Ed, whats the life span of the spring retainers? That will be the next issue LOL

From an engineering perspective, this whole QR mechanism is amateur and utter ********...

IM still stumped why Tahoe Ed put out a report like this without any proof to back it up, I have had high regards for DJI till something like this came out it really is disappointing that's for sure. How come DJI or Tahoe Ed hasn't posted about all the Chinese Sellers selling Copycats of their props putting out warnings that they are unsafe? I had to find out with personal experience I purchased carbon fiber props for my P2 they were so out of balance when I launched the bird it drifted right in to a fence. its was absolutely dangerous. I never used them again. EBay has allots of unauthorized sellers im still waiting for the DJI warnings to come out. This one was ridiculous.

Ward you are correct, as I see it the Hubs cracking is one thing (actually a big deal) the other is the Spring Retainers, As we all know that a spring coastally become weaker every time its compressed ( this is just a Proven Fact) after 200 install I wouldn't even trust my bird with the springs especially people who are rough pushing down to hard all the time causing premature spring failure holding the prop locked. I plan on replacing my springs as soon as I fell any micro movement what so ever. Don't worrie DJI I will be still purchasing your Hubs just to rob them of the spring retainers its kind of of a Win Win regardless
I am happy to use the DJI mounting plates for the moment & inspect them every time after a day's flight. I take the attude that it is not a set and forget issue. So far no cracks nor looseness or wear or tear. There is no single way of keeping our birds flying safe. Consider having your props always balanced as part of a holistic approach. BTW when you order a new set of props, DJI also include new mounting plates screws etc. their way of saying; maintain your ship.
