Contract Pilots for Puerto Rico and CA Wildfires

Registered with you and even got the telephone interview. The interviewer seemed genuinely interested and I hope I gave all the right answers. I still need to send off my x5s and have it checked. It can't detect the lens, however it still takes good video. I still have my Inspire 1 and my P4P to back it up with.
Glad to hear we were able to get a hold of you...and thanks for the update. Which location were you interested in going to?

As many of you probably know, Florida Drone Supply and a handful of its clients had the opportunity to fly for both energy companies and telecom companies immediately after Hurricane Irma made landfall in Florida.

Following Hurricane Irma, Hurricane Maria wiped out essentially all of the power grid and telecom in Puerto Rico and we have again been contacted to see if our pilots are interested in going to Puerto Rico to fly and assist with things there.

We currently have multiple deployments getting ready to go to Puerto Rico as well as opportunities to fly in California for telecom companies due to the wild fires.

Between all of the deployments there are likely 50+ pilots needed and we are trying to help fill as many of the spots as we can with Florida Drone Supply clients and with members of the forums we support.

Contracts range from as little as a couple weeks to as long as ninety days. Terms vary depending on who you are flying for, what equipment is required and the length of the time you are asked to fly.

If you have any interest in working for power companies or doing tower inspections for telecommunications (or any of the other work that we get contacted about) we would love to help get you connected to these projects. Most of the time there is training available if you have not done this type of work before; so if you are interested but unfamiliar with the type of work, we can get you help with that.

To get on the list or to get more details about the timing, equipment requirements or the pay, register on our site and we will call you to talk specifics:

(Alternatively, you can just email to [email protected], but we are going to need to ask you the questions on the registration page anyway so that can save us a step if you use the website)

For us, it was a very unique and rewarding opportunity to fly and help in the wake of a natural disaster. The support and encouragement we received was amazing.

Here are a couple links to some news interviews I was asked to do during the Hurricane Irma recovery efforts:

Thanks everyone…we hope to fly with you sometime soon!

Just submitted my application. I look forward to hearing back from your company.

Update 10/21:

We have had many, many people express their desire to be involved in helping both in Puerto Rico as well as California. I can’t say enough about how willing people were to get out there and help.

It looks like the first deployment of people will arrive in Puerto Rico around this coming Friday (90 days commitment). Details are being discussed now for a second and third wave around a week or so after the first group is established there.

We also have a substantial group of people standing by waiting for the California details.

We have tried to reach as many people as we could with the details (transportation, compensation, lodging, security detail, etc) but know we have not connected with everyone yet. We will continue to reach out to everyone and also send you a link to supplement the information you have already provided so we can be more aware of each person’s availability, required notice, maximum time away from home, desired location and any relevant experience you may have.

Thanks everyone - we will continue to keep you informed.

Application info sent.

Michael,
I just updated my information for you. When we spoke last week you mentioned your trip to Atlanta. How did your meeting go? Have you heard anything about Savannah? I am still available to help out where ever and whenever you need me.

Hi Marvin. We had a very productive trip up to Atlanta last week which should result in a significant amount of non-emergency commercial / industrial work for our pilot network. There will be some required training to work on the contracts and we plan to send out details about that sometime next week to everyone. The training will be designed to prepare the pilots for the local work we will be able to contract them for as well as any additional disaster relief needs that occur going forward.

Thanks for your interest in helping and making yourself available. We appreciate it and look forward to supplying more details soon and getting people through the training programs beginning in as little as a week or two. We believe training will occur every week until sometime in January with the exception of the weeks around the holidays.

More details to follow.

Michael

If anyone is planning to go to DJI AirWorks in Colorado let us know. We will be there and would love to get a chance to meet up with some of you.

In fact, if you are going to be there, call or text Brett at 303-842-5718.

Thanks!

what licensing requirements are needed to qualify for this kind of work?

I own a few drones and its the quiet time of the year for my full-time job, but I'm not a certified pilot.
I presume its a certified person you are in need of?
