Errant clips in FCPX

When I import a series of clips taken yesterday afternoon into FCPX, very strangely, some of them appear as Compound Clips on the timeline and display a transparent red bar in the timecode area above the affected clips. Even more curious is that fact that all the clips on either side of the corrupted ones play perfectly. Has anyone else experienced the anomaly? The clips in question play partially, always at the beginning of the clip and then freeze on the last available frame. In one instance, I have 25 seconds of footage followed by 8 minutes of nothing but black...

Any help would be appreciated very much. It was an important project. Thanks
