Hey all,

I crashed my inspire 2 with X7 camera recently and repaired everything myself - I purchased a new X7, Vibration Absorbing Board and Front Vision Sensors and Camera (FPV).

After finishing repairs and turning it back on, everything worked except the X7 camera and the following errors: IMG_8283.jpeg
I rolled back the firmware to 02.0400, and haven’t been able to upgrade it back to the most recent 02.0600.

The upgrade fails both with the DJI Assistant app, as well as when using my phone with DJI Go 4. This is the Upgrade error when connecting my phone directly to the I2 to upgrade:IMG_8282.png
Importantly, I’ve also tried another X7 unit on the drone and it didn’t work either, so I know it’s not the camera that’s the problem.

- I’ve torn down the drone again and checked all cable connections
- FWIW, the SD card slot blinks red and is not able to format the card. Not sure if this matters.
- Is the fact that the fw upgrade fails consistently on the Ultrasonic System important?

I would love to keep this drone alive if possible, the image you can get out of this camera is just incredible! I had to rent another I2 for a job last week…

Thanks for any help!

I've had some good responses on the Inspire 2 Modding

I'm still not sure how I'm going to fix it, but it seems it could be a cable. the socket mount on the vibration dampening board or the Main Controller unit.

Sorry about the crash. The I2 is great, but once something in the core system gets damaged it can be tough to bring back. Since you tested another X7 and it also didn’t work, the problem isn’t the camera.

The main indicators are:

- The firmware always fails at the same point

- The SD card slot blinks red and won’t format

- Both DJI Assistant and GO4 fail the update

All of this point to a hardware problem on the drone itself, most likely the core board or SD/vision module connections, not the X7. When one of those boards can’t communicate properly, the firmware update won’t complete. Double-check the ribbon cables for the front vision/ultrasonic module and the SD board, but realistically you may need a new core board or a DJI repair to get it updated and reading the X7 again.

Thank you @waverider, I think you're spot on. I've ordered a replacement camera signal cable and only have medium hopes that it will fix it, but it's a cheap first attempt. What and where exactly are the ultrasonic module and SD board? I think My next purchase will be a new Main Controller, there's one new on ebay for $900 USD and a used one on Aliexpress for $400ish

No problem. The camera signal cable is a good first try.

The ultrasonic/vision module is the front sensor unit, and the SD board sits right behind the SD card slot. If those aren’t the issue, the main controller is likely next.

Hey all- thank you so much for your help and support! When I replaced the camera signal transmission cable, all the issues cleared up and I was easily able to update the firmware back to current!

Apparently the camera's ribbon cable from the replacement vibration damping board I installed was either broken from the beginning, or I had messed it up during the installation. So for those having problems - check your cables!

After a few test flights yesterday I'm happy to say she's back in the air and working well. Thanks again!
