Inspire 2 Landing Gear Issue Identified And How To Fix!!!

Hi Michael,

Wondering if the "lock landing gear" option in the app is what's causing
the problem, what if that was turned off? I think it's to keep someone from raising the landing gear when the drone is not in flight and it dropping on the camera.

Greg

I had the "Disable landing gear auto lock" function turned on and the "Automatic Landing Gear" Function turned off and it still happened to me (twice today)

Hello, an easier way around the landing gear problem is just disable the "automatic landing gear" in the app, and use the switch on the remote to operate the landing gear either up or down.

Greg

I tried turning off the "Automatic Landing Gear" function before flying today Greg, however the landing gear still stuck on two different flights and the manual switch didn't work, I tried taking it back up above 33' until the VPS no longer showed but the manual switch still didn't work until I turned the "ALG" back on and then back off, then after toggling the manual switch several times the landing gear finally came down. I haven't tried the Auto Land / Left slider / manual switch suggestion from Jason Boucher yet but I will try that next time it happens... If this causes me to damage my $1899 X5S camera I am going to be a little bit upset... I am not real comfortable catching the Inspire 2 as those blades are a lot more vicious than the phantom - I never had this issue with the Inspire 1.

After almost 8 hours of flight time with the I2, it finally happened to me. I've always had the automatic landing gear function off and have been manually raising and lowering the gear. Immediately as I saw it had only partially gone down, I came to this thread and tried the procedure. Unfortunately it didn't work despite trying several tries, and I was forced to hand catch.... definitely not a fun thing to do.
DJI, if you are reading PLEASE fix this bug as soon as possible. It's super frustrating and ridiculous we have to even deal with a bug of this nature.

Hello,

The same problem happened to me. Landed on two batteries and next day no possible to raise up langing gear.

Neither I am able to move landing gear up and down using manual switch. I have "Automatic Landing Gear" option disabled.

Did you solve your problem?
I have tried:
- restore I2 to factory defaults,
- refresh firmware by DJI assistant 2,
- use Jason Boucher tip during 3 flights,
- manualy move landing gear with screwdriver
but no progres at all.
Application says landing gear up or landing grear down, but no reaction on the bird.
When I push 5 times power buton, I hear tak sound 4 Times from the bird, blue led turn on and nothing...

I am thinking of sending back to RMA this bird.

That's a pretty serious bug. Nice you found out a way to get around it but I doubt the majority of I2 owners are going to do this or remember these steps. DJI really needs a hotfix for this.

Well considering the cost of the I2 and the x5s I will **** sure remember this and every step in it. Thank you to the OP for the time to write this up and figure it all out.

Hello,

I know I saw many posts about people having issues with the landing gear getting stuck on the Inspire 2. I spent a few hours today testing and have figured out what triggers the issue, and also figure out how to resolve the issue and land the Inspire.

For those of you who don't know, people have complained that while flying the Inspire 2's landing gear would get stuck it what looks like travel mode, and will not go up or down no matter what they do. This causes them to have to catch the bird mid air, or land on 2 x 4's.

Here is what triggers the event.. (Works Every Time) as well as how to Fix the Issue Mid Air (Works Every Time)

The Cause.

If you have the landing gear set to automatic, and you slowly land the Inspire while the gear is in the raised position the gear will start coming down. If you happen to give the drone throttle while the gear is coming down, the drone thinks you are no longer interested in landing, and then causes the gear to STOP and stay in whatever position it is at. I have also a few times see it stop going down, even if you continue to try and land.

Toggling the landing gear up and down via the remote switch does NOTHING.. no matter how often you do it. So what do you do? Its actually very simple

The Solution

Raise the Inspire to about 20 or 30 feet in the air, In the DJI Go 4 app press the Autoland button, and then slide the slider to the right.... The drone will begin to decent, but oh no.. the landing gear still doesn't come down... Toggle the bird from GPS mode to ATTI mode... the drone will then stop and hover in place.. Once it starts hovering toggle the landing gear switch on the RC up, and then Down. The landing gear will then begin to lower and allow you to land

This has worked EVERY single time I have tried it!!!

DJI.... Hint Hint... You may need to add a fix to the next firmware release!!

Hopefully this can help at least one person save their drone if it happens to them..
That is solid troubleshooting and good to know information. I am going to file that in that "things to know" cabinet. I do not, however, have the landing gear set to auto. That bit me in the backside once with my Inspire 1 when I was doing a low pass at high speed. The result was not pleasant.

This is a great discussion. What I've done with my I1, getting an I2 Friday, is to start the auto landing procedure. Maybe a few meters before touchdown I stop it and manually land the rest of the way. DJI clearly needs to fix this.

How's it going with this? Problem solved in latest firmware?

It seems like the issue hasn't been fixed in the newest firmware. I heard at least two members from another forum who experienced the landing gear issue even after upgrading.

I'm quite a bit disappointed.

The best option right now is to leave your landing gear in Manual mode, and not automatic mode, that will ensure you don't experience the issue

Second on the above.

I'm waiting to buy an I2, but not until they get the bugs out of the device. Even props in the box that don't even fit on the shafts is bad enough, esp. ones that are 5mm too small to even fit, or so loose they rattle and lead to Jello. Bad firmware too.

DJI QC is sorely missing. Probably on the annual anniversary date of November for the Inspire series, they'll come out with I2 V2 or I2 Pro and address maybe 90% of the bugs.

While I agree with you, the plastic props are garbage in general, and we should be getting CF props in the box from someone like T-motor for the prices we pay.

That said... there aren't really any other hardware issues with the I2, it's all really bad firmware causing the issues.

After a bit of research and a phone call, I settled on CF blades with Lynn Phan adapters from Fly High USA. Ralph, gave all the support I needed. Once the adapters are released they will be finding a home my Inspire 2.

I prefer hard mounted over quick release, but if LP redesign comes with locks I would buy.

Personally, I think CF blades are overrated. Much the same as "I need decals to make it look purdy". With the current tissue of sticking landing gear, and maybe the need to hand-catch, I'd prefer plastic over carbon fiber. Also, if the thing should fall over on landing due to hanging landing gear or a wind blast, plastic may snap off and not burn up the ESC by trying to keep a carbon blade turning in the dirt.

I need some expensive carbon fiber bits on my race bike too to make it go faster too. It's already purdy. :D

now my landing gear not working anymore... even in travel mode it won't goes to landing mode.. i have to manually use a screw driver to drive the worn drive... Oh my GOD... i have few job this week .. and DJI NEED to me send back my i2...

Are you on latest fw ?

Ok the usual trick on the I1 was to just whist the screw to make it release then it would usually kick in, if no matter what you do you can't get out of transport mode you probably have a craft side failure of the servo motor.
