Mount for Ipad Air with protective case?

Im looking for a solution to mount my Air2 with a larger all weather protective case to my remote control.
With case on it wont fit in the supplied mount.
Thinking about removing the supplied one and fitting a "RAM" 1 inch ball mount. Has anyone done this or similar?
