does the Inspire automatically set home when we boot it up or do I have to do something to set home. Does the H have to show on the the map for home to be set.

Yes and yes!
Home point automatically sets at motor start (assuming good GPS fix) and once set "H" will show up on the map.

Correct - but you will only see it on motor start up, it will not set just by turning the Inspire on.
