I have a Thermapp thermal imaging camera and its quite interesting seeing a visual representation of temperatures.
I just thought this was interesting to show people the self discharging heat generated by the battery going into 50% charge for storage mode.
As can be seen, most of the heat is generated on the top part of the electronics (white housing) but the whole battery does heat up.
Comparison between a self discharging battery between 2 batteries that are already in storage charge. Room temperature is 23 degrees C (as are the batteries that are in 50% charge vs the discharging battery at 37.3 degree C)

Here is a side view of the battery undergoing storage mode and another already in storage mode. (23 degrees C on the 50% storage charge battery vs 28degrees C on the battery undergoing discharge.)
