I looking for super wideangle lens ~ there there any 7.5mm avalible ? i know there is a lowwa 7.5Mm is kinda expensive.. looking for a big cheaper lens
any recommand ?

I think most all of the other 7.5mm are fish-eye type lenses. The Laowa is a rectilinear design so it is not a fisheye and should be better handling distortion than most wides.

Get a load of this guy's video made with the Laowa 7.5mm on an Inspire 2 and in the highest rez mode (i.e. 1080) in Youtube. Wow!!!

yeap thanks man.. i check the video on youtube before... is really superd quality.. on the laowa..
here is few thing i consider before i pull the triggle...

* lens compatiblities on X5s inspire 2 current firmware
* i am using a massive group photo.. more than 1000+ people around... and need to take photo including their building... duh... ( i am abit worried)

One other option to consider is to have a X4S as a spare. It is a 8.8mm lens. If you are only shooting picts for this job and don't need prores or raw. I have one for a secondary camera and need something lighter weight. That being said I most likely will pick up the 7.5 when/if it hits Amazon.

I have the X4S as well as the X5S. My X4s has a bit of softness in the corners where the lenses used on the X5S are sharper.

As to the X4S lens, the field of view is 84 degrees and the Laowa 7.5mm is 110 degrees. Quite a bit of difference. I think the 35mm equivalent is a 24mm lens on the X4S, and X5S it is 15mm for the Laowa.

Only things that bother me on the Laowa is lack of info on the EXIF as it doesn't couple to the body camera, just full manual so no focus motors, aperture, or image alignment info to the DNG file. Plus I think they use a plastic bayonet mount on the light-weight model verses a heavier metal on the standard one. Don't know how plastic will stand up to a lot of lens changing on the mount. Somewhere back in time I recall some lens having a plastic bayonet mount and a lip cracked off it and it had to go in. Don't know how or if Laowa will have a service setup in the states should it break or need warranty as I can't find it on their website, just a China headquarters for Venus Optics so it might be a throw-away lens if bad as shipping USA to China is $$$. I'm not impressed with Olympus USA service so far (It's not Olympus factory service, but some third-party that Olympus uses in the States, and the same one for Sony too.).

Still, I want the Laowa though as my plan would be to double the focal length with primes so 7.5mm, 15mm stock, some 30mm, and the 45mm (If I ever see it again from Olympus service and they quit jacking up the repair costs for a simple version update!).

that guy has some great footage. Would like to see some reviews from guys around here on this, I'm interested in it.

Wonder what is the minimum acceptable distance to use infinity for focus since the lens lacks focusing motors? All the videos I have seen with it have been landscapes with some distance between the AC and the target.. I was wonder about the use in Real Estate photography in a tight environment. Was doing a pre site visit yesterday and had power lines close into the target.

Setting it to infinity probably will be good from 20' out I'm guessing without looking at some hyper-focal distance scale or calculator. A lens like the 45mm takes some focusing work I find with the focusing wheel, but it looks cool when going from very blurry to sharp with the wheel if you like that effect. I don't think the same will happen with the 7.5mm and probably evverythign will be reasoanbly sharp with it.

I've found I can export an image out of the camera to a TIFF file and open it in DxO Optic Pro 11 and straighten up horizon as well as any vertical poles at the side to almost perfect. It really works well when a slant or perspective issue is there, but it is only for still photos in tight quarters with a wide angle lens. I did it on some cramped interiors couple of days ago to align the walls back to vertical and it is nice. Hopefully it will soon accept the DNG RAW files off the X5 and X4 cameras.

thanks gary.. is good to know x4s have 8.8MM lens.. yes mostly i only shoot picture and some 1080Full HD videos only... ( because my macbook air will die if i post process with 5.2k lol

B&H Photo just got the Laowa 7.5mm Ultra-Light Aerial model in this AM (Aug. 15, 2017) and sold all of them already, silver and black both! I got a black one though, showed as their last one too. I had a "Request to notify me when in stock" but I never got it, just checked on their website status and it was good to grab so I did. Woot!

They still show a heavy normal one in black though for ground cameras: Venus Optics Laowa 7.5mm f/2 MFT Lens for Micro VE7520MFTSTBLK . Silver heavy is already gone too.

Has anyone used the standard weight Laowa 7.5 lens on an Inspire?
20 grams difference does not seem to be very much - and I'd rather have the metal mount.

I'd appreciate it if anyone could advise me on this.

I am curious to this too. I'd rather the metal.

It appears the standard is 170g, which is on the heavy side for things. Even at 150g the lightweight version is heavier than the olympus options

The Venus Optics website now claims they are all metal in both versions. The website that wrote an early review speculated plastic in the Light-Weight version here: Laowa 7.5mm - world's widest rectilinear f/2 mFT lens

The bottom of the link mentions the plastic part, and that the DJI gimbals can handle 158 grams both. (I never knew the maximum weight figure?). The bayonet may be aluminum so the review may be in error on the speculative plastic part. I will know on Friday what it is made of. Either way, it should be sweet aside from the inability to couple up not having the chip in it to the DJI camera so I'll have to do the hot-swap method with another lens I guess.

Adorama may be another source for the lens too. They seem to link to Amazon as a seller more than B&H Photo too.

I'm curious if they are trying to work with DJI to have compatibility. Interesting on the 158 number, I guess now we know? So yeah the lightweight version puts it just under the max weight.

I was contemplating the Olympus and Panasonic 8mm, but both are heavier (315 & 165 grams respectively.) and both are fisheyes (ugh!). This looks to be the only rectilinear one out there less than 158 grams.

I think the only way it could be 100% compatible being a fully manual lens is if DJI puts in some lens setting for non-chipped lenses with no EXIF data. Hot-swapping lenses ain't fun in dusty areas with uncovered sensors. I dislike cleaning sensors, especially ones with pollen on them where they bond onto the heated sensor cover glass and it takes a wet cleaning to unstick the gunk.
