Ive seen a number of deep discharge units (that do look professional) and give options for recycle / reduced discharge etc. My question is this - on different treads on here there is advise to never use a bulb to deep discharge, or indeed let the battery get to zero. If this is the case why are these professional systems doing so well, shouldn't they be destroying batteries ?

Also is the technology in the I2 battery any different, or do all the issues and procedures etc for the Inspire 1 and Phantom battery remain the same for the Inspire 2, or Matrice for that matter?

This is my Batt discharge device i buy for my Phantom 3 i bought a cable from DJI to fit the new battery type and it works OK. Its fully electronic and applies a progressive load based on battery voltage. I have used it a few times now on my TB50

Phantom Angel does not let the battery get to zero. There is a little switch on the side for taking the battery to either storage voltage or to deep discharge (5 or 8% I think). It does use a lightbulb and is very bright and hot.

The Smart Power Charge does something similiar but it is also the charging device as well. They are a bit pricey, but I think you will find most everyone thinks they are worth the money once they get used to the convenience. It will take your battery to storage voltage, deep cycle if for you (discharge and charge) and is a 4 bay charging station that charges Inspire 1 and Matrice 100 or Matrice 600 batteries. They also have multiple Phantom versions as well. Here is a link to one we carry in stock:

There is a LVC within every DJI 'Intelligent' pack that switches the battery off at around 3.1v per cell.
The same as your mobile phone battery doesn't die never to be useful again if you let it go down to 'zero' - Your phone switches off to protect the battery.

They are going to release an adapter for the current model (Inspire 1, Matrice 100 and Matrice 600) that allows it to work with Inspire 2 batteries...this was great news because some clients still have a Matrice 600 or an Inspire 1 in addition to their Inspire 2 - and the same charger / storage charge / deep cycle device can work with all the batteries.
