Do i have to update to latest firmware and DJIGo versions to add a 2nd controller?

So i purchased a used controller to add to my I-1 V-1 and could never get the usb to connect to any of my 3 my Tablets. I thought it was the controller and returned it and receieved a refund. The seller says he plugged it back into his, and everything is working, sent me a video...i then read about all the issues when you dont update the firmware on the camera, and both controllers all to the newest version. My delima....I have a nice old version that has been perfectly great, and would like to keep it...is that possible, or am I doomed to update if I want w controllers

Both controllers have to be on the same update level in order to work as a pair. Most likely any controller you get will be updated to newer code.
