One of our pilots was doing mapping in the Sacramento CA area. The Inspire went dead stick and fell 250. Battery voltage was 70% at the time of the crash.
My question is it possible for the battery to disengage during flight?

The pilot is very experienced and has been with the company for a few years now, so I'm pretty confident it wasn't pilot error.

I don't believe that was pilot error. I have herd of this happening before and the battery would have shown some kind of problems before it went that high the battery dosen't come out by itself so I think it should be covered by dji if you have their insurance or if it's still under warranty.

I had a similar incident happen with my Inspire 2 only mine climbed to about 1600 feet and then shut down the motors causing the crash. I had absolutely NO control over the sticks whatsoever including using RTH repeatedly. Any input from me using the sticks was unresponsive. I downloaded my flight records via AirData and they showed the known TB50 battery issues as the likely cause of the shutdown.
At this point I’m getting ready to ship it back to DJI using my DJI Refresh Care + and see how badly they charge for my replacement. More than likely they’ll say “pilot error” but I have screenshots of the flight records that clearly shows the problem.
As they say “more will be revealed”!!

Hey Phil - sorry to hear about your crash. We know of several of the TB50 and TB55 battery failure related crashes and so far DJI has stood behind them and replaced the aircraft / sensors. Hopefully they do for you as well.

As for the OP's original question, it is not likely that the battery disengaged. They snap firmly into place and would have to be jarred very substantially to get them loose. Something else must have failed in flight. Sorry to hear about it. Please let us know if we can help in any way at all.

Thanks for your reply and I sure hope you’re right about DJI standing behind their product in this case.
Right after the crash I called you and told someone that answered the phone about it and she said that she hadn’t heard of it before. I was just wondering if you had heard about any similar situations just to see if mine was an isolated case.
Once again thank you for everything you do.

This happened to my inspire 1 a few years ago after a firmware upgrade. But its possible that the battery might have dislodged thats why i always use a clear tape and tape the battery to the body just as a precaution.
