Hi all

We have got an inspired 2 with X5S camera but what would be a good backup drone? This would be used to practice as well as be used if our inspire is out of action. We have a budget of about £1200.

Thanks

Hey there – Typically a backup unit is identical to the primary unit you are running but with a budget in mind that is not always suitable. We then see some guys have Phantom 4 Pro/Pro+ units to backup their Inspire 2 units.

When looking at an Inspire 2 backup typically the setups we do just have an extra aircraft only as a backup (no additional RC, batteries, charger) with another X5S so that you have a complete duplicate of everything in the air (assuming you've got multiple sets of batteries).

I'm not familiar how pricing on a P4 Pro would be in euros but based on where the conversion seems your budget would be right around the cost of a P4P.

Hope this information helps. Have a good day! :)

Yes ideally we would buy a second inspired 2 chassis but that is £2800. What about the Phantom 3 professional?

Anything from the Mavic (or even the Spark) to a second I2 unit could be a backup but it depends on what kind of applications you are typically shooting and what you demand in terms of video formats and imaging capabilities. Phantom 3 Professional is a great unit, most significant difference between the P3P and P4P are the obstacle avoidance sensors, camera sensor (camera on P4P is a big jump from P3P) and flight time with it's larger battery.

For me it depends on what your using it for, we have an I2 and are looking ar a Matrice 200 when it comes out as a backup (or indeed main) unit. We are mainly involved in high quality mapping, and other specialist imaging, and not video.

Like others have stated, it would be subject to your applications of use. I can get away with a Mavic Pro in most cases for records as a backup, but the Mavic can only be a backup for live shots if you have a CrystalSky monitor. Another factor would be the image quality needed/required.
Live shots to screen for a local event is acceptable in my opinion from a MavicPro.
Inspire 2 for the win.
