drone video on youtube illegal!?

If the FAA is going to start limiting us on Youtube, the can F*** off. I WILL NOT stand for that. If they wanna track me down and find me, so be it. But if I recorded a video and want to post it on a video sharing website, I am going to do it.

I cannot see how the FAA has any jurisdiction over this whatsoever. Just another goofy government agency trying to flex it's supposed muscles.

It will never hold up in court... But they are right turn off monetization and they will only be making themselves looks stupid. Actually I would like one of these cases go to court, so the FAA can loose and set legal prescient for the Rest!

I don't get all the legal fuss, fpv and RC models have been around forever. While there is some regulation, it no where near what is being proposed for "drones"

And while I am ranting, why are Quads, hexto and octocopters "drones". They are RC models like a RC helicopter or Plane. RC helis can hover, can have multi axis gyros, and even gps assist, no one gave a crap for years... And actually they still don't....

The issue they claim is with the monetization of those videos rather than the publishing.

Small distinction but one worth noting.

Vimeo (advertising free) has been my preference while building a portfolio until the UAV licensing rules are finalized.

As an FAA employee having peripheral exposure to the UAV/FSDO specialists in my Service Area I find that the people responsible for enacting/enforcing the "new-fangled" rules are '60s era throwbacks who (like all other gub'mint employees) are interested in only two things...CYA and protecting their turf. Unfortunately until more flexible (generally younger) people are promoted into those positions I expect thing to get worse.

I suggest we UAVers install Ted king of the FAA so he can clean house and watch out for the rest of us. :) All those in favor, say aye!

The rules are the same in Australia.

However if you are not doing anything stupid like flying near an airport then it is all to hard for them to chase every single video the man power requirements to police this would be huge.

Part of the fear is that a quad, hex, rc copter, plane, train boat, car, drone, what ever the neck you want to call it, can be used as a low tech terrorist tool. For example, the phantom landing on the lawn of the White House, purposely flying into a high or low rise gub-mint building. How many uav videos have you viewed do far where there HAS been an advisory circular nonconforming act. And these are the good guys. Yea the FAA may be behind the power curve, but they have a good reason. P.S. I am not a FAA Rep, so don't blow me up. Oops, I said blow up.....On second thought, these are not the drones you're looking for......

Terrorists seem to ride motorcycles and have guns, although sometimes I see them in cars or pickups, carrying their guns or rigged with explosives. Seems like I remember they like to hyjack and fly planes, and use women and children to carry explosives, but I guess it would be kinda hard to outlaw the women and children.

Edit: however there are some politicians, regulators and beauracrats that would endorse making children and women illegal also

Enjoy life and be nice

Trying not to get to political on an information based site, but If I can strap a 50 lb camera to octo, nuff said. Just another way for them to hide themselves behind all your examples, and now, a low tech delivery system.
