Flouting the law?

Being a member of this forum has been an honour and I see the vast majority of members are flying inside the various regulations laid down by authorities around the world. However I'm also a member of the 'MavicPilots' group and it seems the opposite there.

I'd like to ignore these people and put it down to lack of brain cells but the more and more incidents I see make me less and less eager to invest in this technology due to the real threat of legal sanctions and possible bans.

I wanted to ask the opinions of this groups members and see if I'm just worrying about nothing or do others feel the same way??

:(:(:(

Just Google "Huerta CES" and see how many government officials are at the CE show in Las Vegas. Read his speech and it will be clear that sUAVs are being integrated into the National Airspace. There will be no blanket bans, although expect that regulations will get smarter. If you follow the rules you have nothing to worry about. Read my article here https://ssrn.com/abstract=2824127 and get a Part 107 license if you want to use your sUAV for commercial use. I created a PDF of the commercial rules attached to this post. Be sure to register your sUAV here sUAS Registration and mark your sUAV with the registration number. If the site you go to for registration is not at faa.gov, leave IMMEDIATELY. There are several scam sites in operation!

Wow thanks for the concise answer and the reassurance that there is such responsible UAS operators out there. As I'm based in the UK and moving to Canada the US FAA won't apply, but the information is very helpful. I did see the Huerta press conference and agree about the integration policy. However the huge increase in non-commercial drone pilots is pretty scary and the numbers of new registrations in the US alone makes it implausible to think we won't have a fatality directly related to a rogue pilot at some point in the near future.

If I were an official, I would be considered an extremist by required all pilots (hobbyist or commercial) be Part 107 certified or in the company of a certified remote pilot while using a sUAV.
I think the biggest problem is the fact the FAA don't enforce the simplest regulations. Basic VLOS and ceiling is the most flouted rules closely followed by the opposite with many drones flown over populated areas at lower levels and people's properties. Barely non of these pilots will give a [EXPLETIVE REMOVED] about having any license let alone liability insurances.

Really puts me off bothering with commercial license seeing so many now even selling services with know intention of ever getting a license. It's all beyond repair.
