How does DJI CrystalSky work with data?

Hiya, we have the Bright Crystal Sky monitors for our DJI Inspire 2.

I just realize I do not know how it deals with data. Can it actually download anything itself? Or does it need to have a hotspot to the phone?
Everywhere I fly it has the maps, are they pre loaded or streamed?

It needs to connect to a WiFi hotspot. I would connect it to my phones hotspot if I needed a connection in the field but usually it didn't need a connection for most operations unless you needed to unlock an area.

Yep, what Teddy says. It connects to WiFi well and also connects to my phone hotspot perfectly. I generally connect it to my phone while flying so it can have access to maps. That's not necessary but I feel like it can't hurt.
