Maintaining altitude close to ground with VPS off?

Hi everyone,

I've come across weird behavior with my Inspire 1, I think it is mainly or only when I have the VPS off. I was landing on a boat yesterday that wasn't moving too much and I had killed the VPS just in case. I noticed that when I have my landing gear down, the inspire seems to slowly lower itself, maybe a couple of inches per second, and I had to constantly give it more throttle to prevent it from sinking itself into the ocean. Is this normal with VPS off? I am maybe 3-4 ft from the deck of the boat and it will just lose altitude slowly without any input from me.

Thanks in advance!

Just normal thinking, the VPS is there to recognize where the ground is.. I understand turning it off when landing on a moving boat or flying over water, but if it's off, then it is not sensing and locating the ground to maintain a perfect altitude.. Might have to make minor adjustments when flying close to the ground.. When the VPS is back on, it should hold true..

Just my thoughts, I could be wrong..
