There are a lot of third party transitions like this for AE & FCP X.
 
I am no expert with video by any stretch of the imagination. Great video production but those transitions gave me a headache
 
Hahaha! They have mixed reviews. Many have loved them, but my wife, like you, said they were painful to watch.
